Declaration of Interdependence
"We have learned that we cannot live alone, at peace; that our own well-being is dependent on the well-being of other nations, far away.... We have learned to be citizens of the world, members of the human community." Interdependence is basically how we are all connected globaly. Our world today, has become mutually dependant on others. We cannot survive without being connected to other countries. Without trade to and from other countries we wouldn't have money curculating in the economy, and have resources to live. We need countries to be reliable and as they are trustworthy. David Suzuki made many valid points on how interdepence is present in our generation/century. He makes a valid point stating that our technology tool are so powerful they caused species to go extinct. We produce so much fossil fuels, that the polar ice caps are melting no allowing polar bears to go search for food without drowning. He also states that "The stability of communities of living things depends upon this diversity.Linked in that web, we are interconnected — using, cleansing, sharing and replenishing the fundamental elements of life." Showing that we all stay connected through the internet, and it keeps what we are doing possible, but that causes the form that we rely only on internet and communications. Way David Suzuki says we can fix this is, "All this that we know and believe must now become the foundation of the way we live. At this turning point in our relationship with Earth, we work for an evolution: from dominance to partnership; from fragmentation to connection; from insecurity, to interdependence." He states that there is a drecrease in Biodiversity and erasing of the future, since we are not getting better it will only be worse in the future years.

Great job! I am really glad that you tied in David Suzuki's "Declaration of Interdependence". In my opinion, I believe that his declaration is predominantly based on the environment. His allusions to biodiversity and the Earth lead me toward the fact that we are all interconnected and what we do in one situation affects another. In addition, I believe that he is not solely looking at our generation; his declaration ties in that what happens in the past affects us now and that what we do now affects the future. As we affect the future, we have no right to shorten it for others and must work together to preserve our world. I really like how you tied in quotes from the Declaration and your explanations! Good work :)
ReplyDeleteit's great that you related the topic of interdependence to Suzuki. David Suzuki is not only a very interesting person, but his message about how we should treat the earth and each other is refreshing. We as humans need to find a balance between keeping the worlds economy in check while at the same time keeping our world beautiful. One way that this needs to happen though is globally. The whole world needs to work together. Great Post:)
ReplyDeleteOur world today is completely dependent on others but do u think that it would benefit the earth to return to a lifestyle that allows solitude from other nations? I agree with you that working with the earth is important and we don't necessarily need to give up our modern lifestyle now, we just need to find a more sustainable way of living! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's true that in today's world that there are so many different resources that we need the trading with the other country to be able to make a profit off of it as well we need the resources of others to help us "survive". But you're right in the sense that because of all our producing and trading of resources e are affecting the environment in a negative way.
